afternoon, morning, evening用法特點(diǎn)和規(guī)律
1. 時(shí)間的劃分
Morning(上午)指從日出到正午;afternoon(下午)指從正午到日落或下午工作結(jié)束;evening(晚上)指從日落到一天工作的結(jié)束或就寢。
2. 用作口語(yǔ)招呼語(yǔ)
在口語(yǔ)中打招呼時(shí)，通常用good morning (afternoon, evening) 等。如：
Good morning! How are you doing? 早上好，你怎么樣?
Good evening, everybody. 大家晚上好。(廣播員用語(yǔ))
Good afternoon. Terrible weather, isn't it? 下午好! 天氣真糟，是不是?
但在非正式場(chǎng)合，有時(shí)可把good省略掉，以顯得更隨便一些。如：
Morning, George. 早上好，喬治。
Afternoon, Diana. 下午好，戴安娜。
3. 關(guān)于冠詞的使用(1) 在通常情況下要與定冠詞連用。如：
I'll be back in the afternoon. 我下午回來(lái)。
An hour in the morning is worth two in the evening. 早上一小時(shí)抵晚上兩小時(shí)。
(2) 若受形容詞修飾，表示“某一種”之類的意思時(shí)，通?？捎貌欢ü谠~。如：
He visited her on a rainy morning. 他在一個(gè)下雨的早晨去拜訪了她。
We met on a cold afternoon in early spring. 我們是在早春季節(jié)一個(gè)寒冷的下午見(jiàn)面的。
注意，on a cold winter evening與one cold winter evening同義，均表示“在一個(gè)寒冬的下午”，前者用不定冠詞，要用介詞on;后者用one，其前不用介詞。
(3) 若不強(qiáng)調(diào)時(shí)間的期間，而強(qiáng)調(diào)時(shí)間的起點(diǎn)，則習(xí)慣上不用冠詞。如：
Afternoon came, and it was time for them to leave. 下午到了，是他們起程的時(shí)候了。
It happened towards evening the next day. 這事發(fā)生在次日傍晚。
When morning came, I found that she had left. 天亮了，我發(fā)現(xiàn)她已走了。
比較：Night began to fall. 夜幕開(kāi)始降臨。
4. 關(guān)于復(fù)數(shù)的使用
(1) 有時(shí)可復(fù)數(shù)形式表示經(jīng)常性。如：
Plenty of shops open on Sunday mornings. 周日上午很多商店?duì)I業(yè)。
Some people work best in the mornings; others do better in the evenings. 有人上午工作效率最高;有人晚上工作效果好。
(2) 有時(shí)其復(fù)數(shù)形式可直接用作副詞，表示每天上午、下午或晚上或任何一天的上午、下午或晚上。如：
I only work mornings. 我只在上午工作。
Afternoons, he works at home. 下午他都在家工作。
He goes out drinking most evenings. 晚上他差不多都到外邊喝酒。
5. 與介詞的搭配(1) 泛指一般意義的上午、下午或晚上，通常與介詞 in 連用;若是特指具體某一天的上午、下午或晚上，則與介詞 on 連用。如：
You must get up earlier in the morning. 你早晨必須起早一點(diǎn)。
Generally she remained in on Sunday evening. 一般說(shuō)來(lái)星期天晚上她都留在家里。
但是當(dāng) afternoon, morning, evening 等詞與early, late 連用時(shí)，即使它有定語(yǔ)修飾特指具體某一天的上午、下午或晚上，也通常用介詞in。如：
He arrived in the early morning of April the first. 他于4月1日清晨到達(dá)。
(2) 在 this (yesterday, tomorrow) afternoon 這類短語(yǔ)中通常不用 in, on, at 這樣的介詞，但若語(yǔ)境需要，它可以與 after, by, before, until, from等介詞連用。如：
He didn't come back until yesterday afternoon. 直到昨天下午他才回來(lái)。
By tomorrow afternoon I ought to have finished the job. 到明天下午的時(shí)候我應(yīng)該把這工作做完了。
6. 漢語(yǔ)說(shuō)“每天上午”“一天傍晚”等，英語(yǔ)只需說(shuō) every morning, one evening 等即可，不能直譯為 every day morning, one day evening 等。
